It is night. They move with such stealth they could be almost floating along the road. I can´t see faces, just the outline of their movement. But when the moon drifts out from behind a cloud, bathing the road in an urgent sort of light, I see how they´re all gazing up towards me. ´They´re coming back,´ I murmur. I turn to Kendall, and she puts her sewing aside, eyes on me. They never waiver. It was supposed to be a place where teenagers would learn resilience, confidence and independence, where long hikes and runs in the bush would make their bodies strong and foster a connection with the natural world. Living in bare wooden huts, cut off from the outside world, the students would experience a very different kind of schooling, one intended to have a strong influence over the kind of adults they would eventually become. Fourteen-year-old Rebecca Starford spent a year at this school in the bush. In her boarding house, 16 girls were left largely unsupervised, a combination of the worst-behaved students and some of the most socially vulnerable. As everyone tried to fit in and cope with their feelings of isolation and homesickness, Rebecca found herself joining ranks with the powerful girls, becoming both a participant - and later a victim - of various forms of bullying and aggression. Bad Behaviour tells the story of that year, a time of friendship and joy but also of shame and fear. It explores how those crucial experiences affected Rebecca as an adult and shaped her future relationships and asks courageous questions about the nature of female friendship. Moving, wise and painfully honest, this extraordinary memoir shows how bad behaviour from childhood, in all its forms, can be so often and so easily repeated throughout our adult lives. 1. It is early in the twelfth century, and the civil war between King Stephen and the Empress Maud rages with renewed vigor. In the battle of Lincoln, the sheriff of Shropshire is captured, and the king himself is detained by his enemies. An exchange of prisoners is arranged: the sheriff will be bartered for a young Welsh lordling who has been captured during a misguided assault on a convent. All seems to be going according to plan until one of the prisoners dies under mysterious circumstances before the exchange is completed. Canny as ever, Brother Cadfael suspects that more than a little evil is afoot, and before long his suspicions are confirmed. How Cadfael determines that the man´s death was not a natural one is the stuff from which the best and most satisfying suspense stories are made. In this case Ellis Peters´s sleuthing Benedictine bases his indictment for murder on literally a single thread. Of extraordinary softness and hue, this filament will bind together the destinies of an unusual trio of young lovers. The unraveling of their tale yields a powerful subtext that explores the nature of love, identity, and divided loyalty. A stunning conclusion and a memorable cast of characters, including the debut of the irrepressible Sister Magdalen, are sure to engage every devotee of medieval suspense. 1. Language: English. Moon Boots and Dinner Suits: An Autobiography, ...

Published for the first time in audio - Jon Pertwee´s infamous autobiography, Moon Boots and Dinner Suits, read by Terry Molloy. Jon Pertwee´s acting career began with a public performance at the age of four. He seems to have been expelled from most of the schools his actor-writer father, Roland Pertwee, sent him to and finally joined RADA in 1936. From there, too, he was asked to leave. Jon went into Rep and had a checkered career. In Brighton panic set in when he dressed as an old gardener in Love from a Stranger instead of as a young cleric in Candida. In 1938 came Jon´s first radio role in the BBC´s Lillibulero, in which year he also appeared in his father´s play, To Kill a Cat, directed by Henry Kendall at the Aldwych Theatre. When war came he joined the navy, ramming Douglas Pier with an Isle of Man Steam Packet boat. He was blown up twice, once put on a marble slab and presumed dead, and spent many months stationed in the Scapa Flow. He was the founder of the Service Players in the Isle of Man. He was commissioned in the RNVR and transferred to naval intelligence, where he worked and became good friends with the future Prime Minister James Callaghan. Then Jon joined Naval Broadcasting. His radio series, The Navy Lark, ran for 18 years and produced some truly vintage memories of radio. Whether telling stories of a misspent youth, of his posterior´s first painful introduction to a fives bat or of his exploits with the McKenzie sisters in the north of Scotland, Jon Pertwee´s humour and natural wit never fail him. Moon Boots and Dinner Suits is a wry, funny and endearing portrait of the early years of a most innovative and well-loved actor. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Terry Molloy.
